The Fountain of Neptune at Bologna was the inspiration for this sculpture.
Dental Alginate (Prosthetic Grade Cream) is applied to the model. Right arm will be added later.
Cotton is embedded into the alginate.
A plaster “jacket” is shaped on top of the alginate and cotton to give the mold contour strength.
The mold is coated with Ultracal 30, a high-density artist’s cement.
Three coats are applied with hemp embedded in the layers.
The “Raw Pull” is delivered from the mold.
The right arm (cast from the artist!) is added and the modesty breech is removed after I decided to make the statue a nude.
A low angle view of the still unfinished sculpture.
The finished statue of “Neptune” holding his trident.
